Colle di Bordocheo

Colle di Bordocheo: grapes and olives from Luccan hills

Colle di Bordocheo is a small family owned farm, which is located in a splendid panoramic position, in Segromigno in Monte (north-east of Lucca), where for a long time, thanks to the favourable climatic conditions and the intense brightness, vineyards and olive-groves flourish. Mainly south facing it stands on a hill at approximately 150-175 metres above sea level. The wooded Pizzorne mountains, with peaks of up to 900 metres, rise behind the property. The sea coast is about 20 km on the west.
The farm covers an area of approximately 30 hectares of mainly clayey, medium-consistency and skeletal-rich soil where, thanks to the favourable climate of the mid-hills, the intense light and the excellent exposure, vineyards and olive groves have always prospered.
Vineyards are the part of Colline Lucchesi DOC, the vines are between 5 and 30 years old and the numbers planted vary between 5600 and 6000 vines per hectare.

The passion for the territory has pushed the Chelini family to a continuous work of renewal and improvement both in the vineyard that in the wine cellar, with the goal to come to produce wines tied up to Lucca's traditions with careful eye to the quality. That was a big step made by Aldo Chelini in the middle of 1990s to change his father’s idea of producing simple wine used mostly for family consumption into appealing product of high quality. The estate also produces high quality extra virgin olive oil, which is a true pride of Colle di Bordocheo.
The owners have also restored the farmhouses located up the hill between the winery and vineyards - they are now used for agro-tourism. Nowadays the estate is run by Aldo Chelini’s children: Dante, Claudia and Barbara.
